Bonnie Ho

BA(Pysch)(Hons), MOrgPsych, MCouns, MAPS

I have been registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and working in various facets in psychology since 2004, including recruitment and counselling.

I like to work collaboratively with my clients. Everyone has different needs and priorities in life. For many people, our professional and personal lives are intertwined. For this reason, I use a combination of career and personal counselling techniques tailored to each client. Feeling entrapped in a meaningless role can evoke a sense of emptiness and living on autopilot, which can induce stress and burnout. It is my passion to empower clients in clarifying their preferred futures and hopes, uncovering their strengths and skills, and acknowledging barriers to employment.

My training and experience also include working with Deaf and hard of hearing clients, and their interpreters. I’m aware of the many barriers relating to access and many cultural complexities that need to be accounted for in the context of employment.

My approach to career counselling

What is career counselling about?

When we meet, I will be asking you how I can be most useful for you in order to tailor support to meet your specific needs. Together, we will explore the kind of working life that you want. I will also use psychometric assessments and counselling techniques to uncover your strengths and personal values that connect to your preferred career direction, work environment, and ways of working. This process will identify and acknowledge your personal barriers to employment, so that we may identify tools to overcome these barriers and enhance your chances of success at work.

What about job applications?

If you already have a clear idea of your career direction, I can provide support with reviewing job application documents (e.g., CVs and resumes, application letters) and advise on building your LinkedIn profile.

How long will it take?

The career counselling process will vary from 1 to 8 sessions, depending on your individual needs. Some people may ask for more than 8 sessions. Each session will be about an hour.

“Seek the expression of a new story, one that speaks to the dynamics of your lived experience and honours the struggles that are unique to the world in which you navigate and create meaning.”

— ATWOOD & SCHOTZ, 2008 (p248)
